Massage,
nutrition, exercise, and herbs, among other modalities, have
been used since ancient times to heal the body, mind and spirit.
Modern society
has made many of us move so far away from these natural methods of
self-healing that we don’t even know what “good” feels like.
Traditional Naturopathy
What is Naturopathy?
What to Expect:
About Martha:
Benedict Lust, the father of American
Naturopathy stated “naturopathy is first instruction, then
inspiration, and ultimately growth.” Naturopaths understand that
there are two possible states for humans: health or disease. It is
the objective of practitioners of naturopathy to educate their
clients in the methods of maintaining health. Some, but not all, of
the methods used are diet, exercise, herbs, aromatherapy,
homeopathy, flower remedies, massage, and hydrotherapy.
Imagine you are driving down the road in your car and the “check
engine” light comes on. You can take the car in to find out why the
light came on, or you can put duct tape over the light and have the
“symptoms” of the problem go away. However, your car will still have
the same problems and will eventually break down.
Every ache, pain, feeling of depression, fatigue, etc. is a “warning
light” telling us that our body is out of balance. If we take
prescription or over the counter medications designed to address
only symptoms, the underlying cause goes untreated, and (like the
car above) will eventually get worse until there is a breakdown.
Naturopathy understands that the body is capable of healing itself,
given the right materials and environment. Practitioners of
naturopathy educate clients in methods to maintain health and
prevent disease. The methods used are non-invasive and live up to
the standard of Hippocrates, which is to “do no harm.”
What to Expect:
|
When you have a consultation with a
naturopath, you will be asked about your lifestyle, diet and habits.
You will be provided with information regarding healthy practices
and will be provided options for addressing deficiencies.
It is
important to understand that conditions and habits that took years
to develop will also take time to change. However, making small
“baby steps” will eventually get you to a better state of health. |
