We/I have finally finished painting (for now). I put the second coat on the stair treads today and then picked up a lighted “Open” sign for our door. All that remains is to open the doors and light the sign on Friday. Martha will be doing chair massage on the porch of our spa on Friday. Come get a great chair massage for $1.00 a minute you choose how long! See you there.

    Massage and wind chimes!

Now that we are nearing our opening Martha wanted to have some of my wind chimes hung at the second floor balcony.  So, I built her a set of very large chimes and placed them outside her window.  Now when you have your massage you can listen to the deep tones of my chimes while getting the best massage of your life!  Make your appointments early we are opening the doors this coming Friday, October 20th.

So tired of painting and patching! Getting closer to our grand opening!

I have painted all or the rooms but one now, the stairway was a B_ _ _ _H! to paint, light blue over chocolate! Three coats, and no patience for painting left. Next I have to paint the stairs and risers and the stairway is done. Next is the bathroom and shower area. Then I am done. We planning on opening on the weekend of 10/20/06 with some finger food, wine, beer and of course complimentary “Chair Massages”. A neat feature of our new location is that you can park at the visitors center for $4.00 a day and take the trolley to our location. Just take the “RED Route” (Historic Loop) to stop 82 on Spring Street get off the trolley turn right, go down three doors on your left and your here!

    We are in business “officially”!!!

Making Progress toward opening Ancient Paths on Spring Street

Yesterday was spent painting yet again! argh! Have I mentioned that I hate painting? We now have the bathroom, stairwell/entry and the last therapist’s room to paint. I plan on painting the stairwell today, it will no doubt be difficult as it is so high up. Not looking forward to it but hey, oh well…when it’s done it’s done! Be sure to come see us when we post our open house.

The wheels of government turn ever so slowly!

Well today was supposed to be our occupancy and fire inspection at the Springs Street Spa, however, we were put off until Thursday…oh well…everything happens for a reason….give me more time to paint, hand doors, and ready ourselves for business.  It is really looking nice inside the spa, our new sign will arrive on Thursday so then we will officially be open for business.  Martha plans an open house so…plan accordingly and come for food, drink and a 5 minute chair massage free!

Oh Lord won’t you rent me a place on Spring Street! Hey it happened!

Ancient Paths Holistic Health and Massage is in the process of moving to #45 1/2 Spring Street in Eureka. You will find our new spa in the space directly above the “Twice Born” shop (this whole adventure started as a possible gift shop for me to display and sell my chimes).  We are very excited to be making a move into the business district of Eureka but we are more excited to be able to serve the entire downtown area. Don’t forget we make outcalls too! Check out our website at: www.ancientpathseureka.com and don’t forget to schedule a healing and restful massage with Martha. Call 981-9995 for an appointment. We will be opening on the weekend of October 14th if all goes well. See you there!

    Homeopathy for Everyone

One of my favorite books that I use at least weekly in my own home is “Everybody’s Guide to Homeopathic Medicines” by Stephen Cummings, MD and Dana Ullman, MPH.  It is chock-full of information regarding the use of homeopathic remedies for everyday ailments.  Homeopathic remedies were systematized by a German physician in the 1800’s.  Dr. Samuel Hahnemann left orthodox medicine because he felt that it was doing more harm than good.  In those days, allopathic medicine consisted of bloodletting, poisonous doses of mercury and arsenic, and other harmful practices.

Hahnemann’s research investigated the premise that curative powers of certain plants were due to their ability to create symptoms similar to those of the diseases. Hahnemann learned that symptoms of diseases were due to the body’s adaptive response in the effort to bring the body back to homeostasis when subjected to various stresses.  He then hypothesized that therapies should stimulate the body’s defenses to aid the body in restoring itself.

Homeopathic remedies, then, use the essence of plants that are known to cause certain symptoms in order to aid the body in healing itself from diseases or dysfunctions that have similar symptoms.  Not only physical symptoms are considered, but mental symptoms as well.  The doses used in homeopathic remedies are so small as to be imperceptible in laboratory tests, but research has shown that they work.  Homeopathic remedies have not been demonstrated to be harmful or interact with other medications.

Remedies I keep in my “first aid kit” include Arnica Montana for bruises, strains and sprains (I have an athlete for a son), Nux Vomica for indigestion, and Rhus Tox for aches and pains.
